homemade almond milk

Cakes + Cookies / Drinks

Since I learned how to make almond milk I use it to make smoothies, to put it into my chai, for cooking and baking and to soak my overnight muesli in. The taste is light and crisp and the texture is amazingly creamy. From a health perspective it’s low in fat and calories but high in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. It contains vitamins and minerals such as copper, zinc, iron, magnesium, manganese, calcium, phosphorus, […]

Drinks

Hi, dear readers, time is ripe and ready for a spring detox! This year I decided to live on fresh vegetable and fruit juice the biggest part of the detox week: juice/smoothie for breakfast, juices for lunch and teatime. For dinner I’ll skip the juice and have steamed vegetables instead, a creamy soup or a salad. No coffee, no dairy, no carbs. Lots of water and herbal teas. If you’d like to join me, you’ll […]

Breakfast / Drinks / Guest Post / Lunch

Smoothies make a great breakfast (and if you like, you can continue drinking them all day). They replenish your cells with water, minerals and natural sugars! Here a few tips, to make your smoothie experience very enjoyable!! 1. Melon should always be the first meal of the day (never in between other meals) and in a smoothie also best just by itself. The reason why it doesn’t mix well, is, that is has a very […]

Drinks / Lunch / Salads

  It’s always a feast when Mr. Herzog from Landmarke delivers the first young and tender vegetables of the season. They are so fresh and tiny, you literally can eat them with root, stems and leaves. Here’s how I prepared my first spring beetroots: green smoothie with fresh beet leaves the leaves of 4 baby beets a handful of lemon balm leaves a few mint leaves 1 apple 1 banana 1 teaspoon almond butter 1 cup […]

aqua fresca scented with rhubarb, rose and vanilla

Drinks / Jams + Preserves

Whenever I prepare a rhubarb sauce for dessert I add more water than the usually needed for the cooking. Later I strain the juice into a little crystal jug and put it apart. I love to pour a sip of this essence into my  water. It’s a refreshing,  mouth-puckering springtime beverage. Even the boring oatmeal for breakfast becomes a perfumed extravaganza, if you substitute part of the milk by rhubarb essence. Don’t be disappointed if […]

Breakfast / Drinks

  I’m looking forward to my super fruity breakfast tomorrow morning: pink grapefruit, pears, banana, apple, flaxseed oil, almonds, goji berries( still to be soaked) and chia seeds. All mixed in a blender and poured over a bowl of white rice. A cup of light green tea would match perfectly, what do you think?

let water be thy cure

The best way to flush out toxins is simple: lots and lots of water. I start my day off drinking water from a bottle right in the bathroom and continue throughout the day finishing at least one big jug more. 1.    Recommended amount: at least 2 litres daily. 2.     Have a glass of water with your cup of coffee/ expresso or black tea because caffeine dehydrates the body. 3.    Add natural flavours […]

Midnight Milk Punch – Lenka’s suggestion from Paris

Hi Lenka, thank you so much for your suggestion! Your Midnight Milk Punch reminded me of the legendary Eggnog, Cary Grant offered so adorably in “The Awful Truth”. Only that in all the years I tried to serve the Eggnog all my guests denied in favour of some more transparent liquids. But you won’t believe it: just mentioning your name  (so much cooler than Cary Grant!), everybody has been keen to try it. Big hugs […]
